Anandiben Patel stresses research, skill development, innovation, and practical learning in higher education

Lucknow, 08 May (HS): Uttar Pradesh Governor and Chancellor of State Universities Anandiben Patel chaired a review meeting on Friday with principals of government and aided colleges affiliated with Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU), Meerut, at the Gandhi Auditorium of Jan Bhavan.
During the meeting, principals from various colleges presented reports on academic activities, achievements, innovations, and developmental initiatives undertaken by their institutions.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor issued several important directions aimed at strengthening the quality of higher education, promoting research-oriented learning, and guiding colleges towards academic excellence.
Anandiben Patel directed the university administration to actively assist colleges in joining the “One Nation One Subscription” scheme, a major initiative of the Government of India that provides students, researchers, and teachers free access to international research journals and educational resources.
She said the initiative would especially benefit students from smaller towns and under-resourced colleges by improving access to quality study materials and encouraging research and innovation.
The Governor also encouraged students to regularly visit libraries and deepen their understanding of history, culture, and prominent personalities through research and educational visits. She suggested that students document their experiences after such visits and participate in discussions with teachers, adding that the best articles and presentations should be recognised during convocations.
Highlighting the importance of India’s knowledge traditions, Patel directed colleges to properly display rare manuscripts and ancient books available in university and college libraries so students could better understand Indian culture, history, and ancient sciences.
She further recommended organising educational tours within India and abroad to help students develop leadership qualities, management skills, and broader perspectives.
The Governor emphasised that education should go beyond textbooks and include practical learning connected to society, labour, and production systems. She stressed the need for employment-oriented and skill-based education that can make students self-reliant and improve job opportunities.
She also instructed colleges to organise district-level competitions and honour outstanding students, teachers, and principals for achievements in research, innovation, publications, and institutional development.
Drawing inspiration from the “Miyawaki Forest” initiative at Jan Bhavan, the Governor directed colleges to undertake tree plantation drives focusing on fruit-bearing and environmentally beneficial trees.
Patel further instructed universities to provide online teaching support to colleges facing faculty shortages and facilitate practical training opportunities for students at university campuses.
The Governor also stressed the importance of serious preparation for National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) evaluations and urged institutions to continuously improve their rankings and adopt best practices.
During the meeting, a documentary on Gujarat created by students of Chaudhary Charan Singh University was screened, showcasing the reconstruction and development of Bhuj and Kutch following the devastating earthquake and subsequent infrastructure initiatives under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership as Gujarat Chief Minister.
The trailer of “Krishnavatharam – Part One – The Heart,” the debut film of the Governor’s granddaughter Sanskriti Jayana, was also presented.
Higher Education Minister Yogendra Upadhyaya, while addressing the gathering, said the Governor’s continuous guidance has brought transformative changes in the state’s higher education sector. He urged colleges to implement the innovations and suggestions discussed during the meeting to further strengthen education quality and student development.
Special Officer to the Governor Dr. Sudhir Mahadev Bobde noted that several universities in Uttar Pradesh have achieved A, A+, and A++ grades due to consistent reforms and quality-focused initiatives.
CCSU Vice Chancellor Professor Sangeeta Shukla thanked the Governor for her visionary leadership and encouraged colleges to promote research, patents, entrepreneurship, innovation, and employment-oriented education.
Several senior officials, including Special Officer (Education) Dr. Pankaj L. Jani, Higher Education Department Special Secretary Badrinath Singh, Director of Higher Education B.L. Sharma, and other dignitaries, were also present at the event.
