New Delhi, April 17: Top seed Elena Rybakina and world No. 3 Coco Gauff advanced to the quarterfinals of the Stuttgart Open 2026, delivering commanding performances in their respective matches at the indoor clay-court tournament in Germany.
Rybakina defeated Russia’s Diana Shnaider in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, wrapping up the match in just over an hour. The Kazakh player relied on a strong service game, including multiple aces, to maintain control despite a more competitive second set.
Gauff Overcomes Slow Start
Coco Gauff, the reigning French Open champion, recovered from an early challenge to beat Liudmila Samsonova 7-5, 6-1. After a closely contested first set, Gauff dominated the second, showcasing her growing confidence on clay surfaces.
She is now set to face Czech player Karolina Muchova in the quarterfinals.
Muchova’s Comeback Victory
Muchova secured her place in the last eight with a comeback win over Elise Mertens. After losing the opening set 1-6, she turned the match around decisively, taking the next two sets 6-3, 6-0.
Her turnaround performance adds momentum heading into the upcoming clash against Gauff.
What Lies Ahead
Rybakina will face either Leylah Fernandez or Zeynep Sonmez in her quarterfinal match, as the competition intensifies among the top contenders.
The Stuttgart Open, known for attracting elite players ahead of the French Open, continues to serve as a key test of form on clay, with several high-profile matchups expected in the later stages.
