Officials caught red-handed during trap operation in Ludhiana, says Vigilance Bureau

Chandigarh, 15 May (H.S.): The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB), as part of its ongoing anti-corruption drive across the state, on Thursday arrested two Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs) and a clerk posted at the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) office in Ludhiana for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹10,000.
The accused have been identified as SDO Jaskanwerpreet Singh, SDO Shruti Sharma and clerk Ashu.
According to an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau, the arrests were made following a complaint filed by Prince Nijhawan, who works in the solar system installation sector.
The complainant alleged that he had installed two separate solar systems at different locations and required inspection and meter installation approvals from PSPCL authorities. As part of the process, inspection and estimate reports had to be prepared by the concerned officials.
The accused officials allegedly demanded ₹10,000 per file — amounting to a total bribe demand of ₹20,000 — in exchange for processing the required reports for both solar system installations.
Unwilling to pay the alleged illegal gratification, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau’s Economic Offences Wing in Ludhiana and lodged a formal complaint.
Following a preliminary verification of the allegations, the Vigilance Bureau team conducted a trap operation. During the operation, the accused officials were allegedly caught red-handed while accepting ₹10,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.
The spokesperson said a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau Economic Offences Wing police station in Ludhiana.
Further investigation into the case is currently underway.
