Shapath Bharadwaj leads Indian contingent in men’s trap event at Almaty

Almaty (Kazakhstan), 08 May (H.S.): Indian shooters delivered an encouraging performance on the opening day of the ISSF World Cup Shotgun competition in Kazakhstan, with Shapath Bharadwaj emerging as the top Indian performer in the men’s trap event at the Asanov Shooting Club in Almaty.
Shapath Bharadwaj scored 71 out of 75 targets, beginning the competition impressively with two flawless rounds of 25 each. Although he scored 21 in the third series, slightly affecting his overall ranking, he still finished as the leading Indian shooter of the day.
Vivaan Kapoor also produced a strong performance, recording a perfect score of 25 in the second series. Combined with scores of 22 and 23 in the first and third rounds respectively, he finished with a total of 70 targets.
Another Indian shooter, Ahvar Rizvi, registered a total score of 68 with rounds of 23, 22, and 23.
Among ranking points competitors, Udaiveer Singh Jajji matched Shapath’s total with 71 points, while Ali Aman Ilahi scored 66.
In the women’s trap event, Manisha Keer emerged as the best-performing Indian shooter. She registered back-to-back scores of 24 in the opening two series before scoring 21 in the third round, taking her tally to 69 and placing her 17th overall.
National champion Neeru Dhanda finished with a score of 68 through rounds of 23, 23, and 22, securing the 21st position.
Pragati Dubey scored 65 with rounds of 18, 23, and 24, placing 35th in the standings.
Among ranking competitors, Varsha Varman scored 61 while Vidhi Singh finished with 62.
The remaining 50 targets and the finals in both men’s and women’s trap events are scheduled to take place on Friday.
