Revenue Minister says the state is replacing the Dharani system with Bhu Bharati to address land disputes and strengthen farmers’ rights.

Telangana Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Thursday said the state government is taking steps to resolve hardships faced by citizens due to policies introduced during the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government, particularly issues linked to the Dharani land portal.
Speaking at a Revenue, Housing and Forest Sadasu held in the Sattupalli Assembly constituency of Khammam district, the minister said farmers and economically weaker sections had faced significant difficulties related to land ownership and revenue administration.

Dharani Replaced With Bhu Bharati
Ponguleti stated that the government has replaced the Dharani land portal with the Bhu Bharati system to streamline land administration and resolve long-pending disputes.
According to the minister, the new framework aims to improve transparency and strengthen farmers’ control over their agricultural lands.
The Dharani portal, introduced during the previous government, had faced criticism from sections of farmers and landowners over alleged technical issues, ownership disputes and procedural complications.
Focus on Land and Housing Security
The minister said land ownership and access to housing are closely tied to the dignity and economic security of poor families.
He alleged that several eligible beneficiaries did not receive houses under the earlier double-bedroom housing scheme despite public announcements made during the previous administration.
Indira Housing Scheme Expanded
Highlighting the Congress government’s housing initiatives, Ponguleti said the revived Indira housing scheme has sanctioned 4.5 lakh houses in its first phase with an allocation of ₹22,500 crore.
According to him, around 1.25 lakh houses have already been completed, while another one lakh houses are expected to be ready by June.
He also announced that A. Revanth Reddy is scheduled to launch the second phase of the Indiramma housing programme on June 2.
Directions on Forest and Revenue Land Disputes
During the meeting, the minister directed revenue and forest department officials to resolve pending disputes concerning forest and revenue lands in villages along the Sattupalli border region.
The affected villages include Rudrakshapalli, Kokapadu, Talapenta, Ramachandrapuram and Venkatagiri.
He instructed officials to complete surveys and demarcation of forest boundaries before the monsoon season.
Ponguleti further stated that pattas would be issued to families cultivating land in these areas for generations.
Relief for Farmers Under Forest Rights Act
The minister also directed forest authorities not to obstruct farmers who have obtained rights under the Forest Rights Act from drilling borewells for agricultural purposes.
Officials said the move is aimed at supporting farmers dependent on forest-border agricultural lands and reducing administrative hurdles.
Public Participation in the Sadasu
The programme was attended by Matta Ragamayee along with residents from Penuballi, Vemsoor and Sattupalli mandals.
Why the Issue Matters
Land ownership and land record disputes remain a major issue for rural households in Telangana, particularly among farmers and low-income families.
The government’s decision to replace the Dharani system and revisit pending disputes is expected to impact thousands of landholders seeking clarity over ownership, cultivation rights and access to welfare schemes.
