Girls outperform boys as government schools register strong merit-list presence under Punjab’s education reform drive.

Chandigarh, 12 May (H.S.): Punjab recorded a major achievement in school education as the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) Class 10 examination results registered an impressive overall pass percentage of 94.52 percent, reflecting significant improvement in academic performance across the state.
According to official figures, out of 2,69,505 students who appeared for the examinations, 2,54,744 students successfully cleared the exams, making it one of the strongest Class 10 performances recorded in recent years.
Girls once again outperformed boys in the results. The pass percentage among girls stood at 95.96 percent, while boys recorded a pass percentage of 93.23 percent.

The results also highlighted the growing performance of Punjab’s government schools. A total of 272 students secured positions in the merit list, including 220 girls and 52 boys. Significantly, 88 students from government schools featured in the merit rankings, which the state government described as evidence of the positive impact of ongoing education reforms under the “Sikhya Kranti” initiative.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann felicitated the top-performing students and congratulated them for their exceptional achievement and dedication.
Harleen Sharma secured the first position in the state with 99.38 percent marks, scoring 646 out of 650. Manimahesh Sharma and Riya Rani jointly secured the second and third positions respectively with 99.23 percent, scoring 645 marks each out of 650.
Praising the students, Bhagwant Mann stated that Punjab’s children possess immense talent and are now receiving improved educational opportunities, modern infrastructure and better academic support to compete at the national level.
“These students will inspire many others to excel in education and build a brighter future for Punjab,” the Chief Minister said.
As part of the recognition for their performance, the Chief Minister announced direct admission for all three toppers into Punjab’s prestigious Schools of Eminence in any stream of their choice. He also presented cheques worth ₹50,000 each to the students.
Highlighting the state government’s broader education reforms, Mann said Punjab has emerged as a leading state in school education through continuous investment in smart classrooms, teacher training, modern teaching practices and infrastructure development.
He further claimed that recent data released by NITI Aayog ranked Punjab ahead of states such as Kerala, Maharashtra and Delhi in primary and middle-school education indicators.
Among districts, Amritsar recorded the highest overall pass percentage at 98.41 percent, while Ludhiana district secured the highest number of merit positions.
Another notable achievement was that 3,718 schools across Punjab recorded 100 percent results, including 1,688 government schools, reflecting what officials described as a strong transformation in public education standards across the state.
