Leader of Opposition calls for unity as AICC begins second phase of consultations for CLP leader

Thiruvananthapuram, 08 May (H.S.): Senior Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan on Friday appealed to Congress and United Democratic Front (UDF) workers to maintain restraint and discipline as the All India Congress Committee (AICC) initiated the second phase of consultations to select the new Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader in Kerala.
In a Facebook post issued amid the Congress-led UDF’s historic victory in the Kerala Assembly elections, where the alliance secured 102 seats, Satheesan said the party was currently experiencing a proud and celebratory moment that should not be overshadowed by unnecessary controversies or factional activities.
“The first phase of the process to elect the Congress Legislature Party leader has been completed. The AICC has now moved to the second phase,” Satheesan said, adding that the Congress high command would take an appropriate decision regarding the leadership issue.
His remarks come at a time when enthusiastic party workers and supporters of various senior Congress leaders have been organising rallies, putting up flex boards, and raising slogans demanding that their preferred leaders be chosen as the next Chief Minister of Kerala.
Without naming any specific individual or faction, Satheesan urged workers to avoid demonstrations and public campaigns that could embarrass the Congress party and the UDF alliance during a period of celebration.
He specifically requested party cadres not to organise marches, demonstrations, or install flex boards projecting leaders for the Chief Minister’s post.
“Congress and UDF workers should lovingly withdraw from such activities,” he stated.
Emphasising the need for unity and discipline, Satheesan reminded party workers that the electoral victory belonged collectively to the Congress party and the UDF alliance.
“We have achieved the biggest victory in the history of the Congress and the UDF with 102 seats. This is a moment of happiness and pride for all of us,” he noted.
Political activity has intensified in Kerala following the UDF’s emphatic electoral victory, with the Congress leadership actively engaged in consultations to finalise the next Chief Minister.
AICC observers Mukul Wasnik and Ajay Maken have already held discussions with newly elected MLAs, MPs, and alliance partners before preparing their report for submission to the party high command in New Delhi.
