Metro services disrupted briefly; no injuries reported in incident
Mumbai, May 6 (H.S.): A fire broke out in the technical room of the underground metro station on Aqua Line-3 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport’s Terminal-2 on Wednesday afternoon, triggering panic and temporary disruption of metro services.
The incident was reported around 4:10 p.m., after which the station premises were filled with smoke emanating from the technical room. Authorities immediately initiated evacuation procedures, and all passengers were safely moved out of the station. No injuries were reported.
Emergency Response
Fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. Due to dense smoke inside the underground facility, firefighters had to use oxygen masks while carrying out operations.
Metro Services Affected
Following the incident, metro services between the airport station and Cuffe Parade were temporarily affected. Officials worked to restore normal operations after ensuring safety protocols were in place.
Suspected Cause
While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed, initial reports suggest that a short circuit may have triggered the blaze. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation described it as a minor incident.
Previous Incident
Notably, a similar fire incident was reported near Terminal-1 of the airport on April 9, also suspected to have been caused by a short circuit. No injuries were reported in that case as well.
