RSS Chief to attend ‘Karmayogi Ekal Shikshak’ meet in Mumbai

Mumbai, April 28 (H.S.): RSS Sarasanghachalak Dr Mohan Bhagwat will address teachers of the Vanwasi Kalyan Ashram during the ‘Karmayogi Ekal Shikshak’ meeting in Mumbai on May 2, as plans are underway to expand the Ekal Vidyalaya network across Maharashtra.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Tribal Development Minister Prof. Ashok Uike are expected to be present at the event. The functioning of Ekal Vidyalayas, run under the Late Laxmanrao Mankar Memorial Trust, Nagpur, is monitored by Gadkari.

The Mankar Trust, headed by businessman Atul Shirodkar, is planning to extend the Ekal Vidyalaya model from the Vidarbha region to the entire state. Currently, around 1,300 Ekal Vidyalayas operate in regions such as Melghat and Gadchiroli, catering to nearly 30,000 students with the support of over 1,800 teachers.

Expansion Plan

The Trust aims to expand the network significantly in tribal areas across Maharashtra. The plan includes establishing around 5,000 schools with nearly 6,000 teachers, expected to benefit more than one lakh students.

Apart from academics, these schools focus on holistic development, including women empowerment, skill development, health awareness, dairy development, preservation of tribal culture, and promotion of folk arts.

Event Highlights

The programme will be held at the Gateway of India in Mumbai at 6 p.m. on May 2 and aims to promote social transformation through education. Distinguished individuals will be honoured with the ‘Karmayogi’ title for their contributions.

Newly nominated Rajya Sabha member from Nagpur, Maya Iwnate, will also be felicitated. A sitar recital by renowned artist Niladri Kumar has been organised as part of the event.
