Kashmir Sees Light Rainfall; Wet Weather Likely to Continue Till April 19

Intermittent showers, gusty winds and possible hailstorms expected across the Valley over the next two days

Srinagar, April 17: Kashmir recorded light rainfall over the past 24 hours, with the Meteorological Department forecasting continued wet weather conditions across the region until Sunday.

According to MeT data, Srinagar received 2.6 mm of rainfall during the period. Other parts of the Valley also witnessed scattered showers, with Qazigund recording 4.4 mm, Kupwara 6 mm, Gulmarg 7 mm, and Pahalgam 5.4 mm.

Rainfall Pattern Across the Valley

Gulmarg emerged as one of the wetter locations, while most other areas experienced light but consistent rainfall. The showers were largely intermittent, affecting multiple districts across north and south Kashmir.

Weather Forecast and Advisory

The Meteorological Department has predicted partly to generally cloudy skies with intermittent spells of light rain or thundershowers at many places until April 19. These weather events are expected mainly during morning and evening hours.

Authorities have also warned of gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph and the possibility of hailstorms at isolated locations during this period.

Temperature Trends

Night temperatures across the Kashmir division remained slightly above normal, ranging between 0°C and 3°C higher than usual in several areas. Gulmarg recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 3.6°C.

What Lies Ahead

Weather conditions are expected to improve from April 20 onwards, with forecasts indicating generally dry weather across the region. The dry spell may extend until April 25–26, although brief and isolated spells of rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds cannot be ruled out.

The ongoing weather pattern is significant for agriculture and tourism in the Valley, as intermittent rainfall and wind conditions can influence crop cycles and travel plans during the early summer season.
