Chandigarh, April 7: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Tuesday criticised opposition parties, alleging that their recent political actions are aimed at safeguarding their own interests rather than addressing public concerns. Speaking in Chandigarh, Mann accused rival leaders of attempting to undermine his government amid ongoing political activity in the state.
Key Allegations Against Opposition
Mann said opposition parties are engaged in “musical chair politics,” suggesting that their primary focus is on power dynamics rather than governance. He alleged that leaders from different parties are working together to protect their positions, while the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is focused on delivering public services.
The Chief Minister also targeted former Chief Ministers Captain Amarinder Singh and Parkash Singh Badal, claiming they did not stay in official government residences during their tenure. He argued that such decisions reflected a lack of engagement with administrative responsibilities.

He further accused the Akali leadership of failing to effectively respond to sensitive incidents, including sacrilege cases reported in Kotakpura and Behbal Kalan, which had sparked widespread protests in the past.

Mann alleged that issues such as organised crime and drug networks expanded during previous administrations. While making these claims, he did not present new evidence but reiterated concerns that have been part of political debates in the state.
He also accused opposition parties of using religious sentiments for political purposes, a charge frequently exchanged among political groups in Punjab.

The Chief Minister also criticised the Congress party, stating that it is facing internal divisions. According to him, party leaders are engaged in leadership struggles instead of focusing on governance and public welfare.
