Nashik Sexual Exploitation Case: SIT Seals Ashok Kharat’s Office, Probe Widens

Nashik 26 Mar (H.S.)- Police custody of self-styled godman extended till March 29 as investigators examine fresh complaints and alleged financial and land-related irregularities.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing allegations against self-styled godman Ashok Kharat has sealed his office at Canada Corner in Maharashtra’s Nashik following a search operation that reportedly led to the seizure of incriminating material.

Kharat is currently in police custody after multiple complaints were filed accusing him of sexually exploiting women while presenting himself as a spiritual leader.

Key Developments in the Investigation

Officials said the number of complainants has increased in recent days, leading to the registration of additional cases against Kharat. The total number of offences registered in connection with the case has now reached eight.

The allegations include sexual exploitation, financial fraud, threats to farmers and suspected involvement in other criminal activities. Investigators are also examining claims related to alleged money laundering and the use of intimidation.

SIT Formation and Custody Extension

Following the emergence of the case, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team headed by IPS officer Tejasvini Satpute.

Authorities said the SIT has intensified its inquiry after a court extended Kharat’s police custody until March 29, allowing investigators additional time to gather evidence and question witnesses.

Focus on Land Transactions and Financial Links

As part of the probe, officials are looking into alleged land grabbing involving a property identified as Ojas Property, as well as possible irregularities in transactions related to land under the jurisdiction of the Revenue Department.

Sources indicated that individuals who may have assisted Kharat — including his wife and his chartered accountant — could be summoned for questioning in the coming days.

Public Impact and Context

Cases involving self-styled godmen and alleged exploitation have periodically drawn public attention in India, often raising concerns about misuse of religious influence, financial fraud and victim protection.

Law enforcement agencies typically step up surveillance and investigations in such cases to ensure accountability and prevent further offences.

Officials said the investigation remains ongoing, with the SIT continuing to examine evidence and record statements from complainants. Further legal action is expected based on the findings of the probe in the coming days.(With inputs from H.S.)
