Prime Minister shares message and Sanskrit verse highlighting teachings of Lord Buddha

New Delhi, May 1 (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday extended greetings to the nation on the occasion of Buddha Purnima, urging citizens to follow the path of peace, compassion and goodwill as taught by Lord Buddha.

In a message shared on X (formerly Twitter), the Prime Minister conveyed his wishes and encouraged people to reaffirm their commitment to values rooted in harmony and kindness.

“Best wishes to all fellow citizens on Buddha Purnima. On this sacred occasion that inspires us to follow the path of peace, compassion and goodwill, let us reaffirm our resolve to embrace the life values of Lord Buddha,” he said.

The Prime Minister also shared a Sanskrit subhashita:

“नान्तर्बहिश्च लोकेषु त्वात्मानं दृष्टवान् क्वचित्।
आष्टाङ्गिकेन मार्गेण परमां शान्तिमाययौ॥”

The verse highlights the philosophical idea that by following Lord Buddha’s Noble Eightfold Path—right view, right intention and right conduct—one can attain liberation from suffering and achieve ultimate peace.

Message of Harmony

Prime Minister Modi expressed hope that the teachings of Lord Buddha would continue to inspire harmony, happiness and unity in society.

The occasion of Buddha Purnima is celebrated across the country to mark the birth, enlightenment and Mahaparinirvana of Gautama Buddha.
