Congress Backs UBT’s Ambadas Danve for Maharashtra Legislative Council Polls

MVA resolves differences as Congress opts out of contest, extends support to Sena (UBT) nominee

Mumbai, April 30 (H.S.): The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance has resolved its internal differences ahead of the Maharashtra Legislative Council elections, with the Congress party extending support to Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Ambadas Danve.

Announcing the decision at a press conference in Mumbai, Maharashtra Congress president Harshawardhan Sapkal confirmed that Danve would be the official candidate of the MVA. The announcement was made in the presence of NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) leader Supriya Sule.

The Congress also clarified that it will not field its own candidate in the election, paving the way for a united opposition front.

Candidates in Fray

As per the current list for the nine Legislative Council seats, the BJP has fielded Sunil Karjatkar, Madhavi Naik, Sanjay Bhende, Vivek Kolhe, Pramod Jathar and Pradnya Satav for the by-election.

From the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction), Bacchu Kadu and Dr Neelam Gorhe are in the fray, with Gorhe’s name reportedly finalised at the last moment.

The NCP (Ajit Pawar faction) has nominated Zishan Siddiqi, while the MVA’s joint candidate remains Ambadas Danve from the UBT Sena group.

Nomination Deadline

Thursday marks the last date for filing nominations for the elections, which are scheduled to be held on May 12.

The development signals a coordinated approach by MVA constituents as they prepare for the upcoming contest.
