Police action in Billawar follows specific intelligence inputs on illegal cultivation

Jammu, April 17: Jammu and Kashmir Police have seized and destroyed over 21 kilograms of illegally cultivated poppy plants in Kathua district, booking one individual in connection with the case.
The कार्रवाई took place in the Pallan area of Billawar tehsil after police received specific inputs about unlawful poppy cultivation. Acting on the information, a police team launched a targeted operation under the supervision of senior अधिकारियों.
During the operation, authorities recovered approximately 21.68 kg of poppy plants. The crop was destroyed on the spot in the presence of an executive magistrate, in accordance with legal procedures.
Police Action and Investigation
Police have identified the आरोपी as Khushi Mohd, a resident of Pallan village in Billawar. A case has been registered at Billawar police station under relevant provisions of law, and further investigation is currently underway.
Crackdown on Illegal Cultivation
The कार्रवाई is part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies in Jammu and Kashmir to curb the illegal cultivation of narcotic crops. Such operations are aimed at dismantling local drug supply chains and preventing the misuse of agricultural land for unlawful activities.
Officials indicated that surveillance has been intensified in vulnerable areas to detect and eliminate similar illegal practices.
