SC Grants Relief to YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia But Criticizes His Remarks
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has granted significant relief to YouTube personality Ranveer Allahbadia, also known as BeerBiceps, amid controversy over his remarks on parents and sex during an episode of the stand-up show India’s Got Latent. The court ruled that no further police cases could be filed against him over the issue while acknowledging his concerns about death threats.
SC’s Key Directives in Allahbadia’s Case
A bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice N Kotiswar Singh ruled on Tuesday morning that:
✔ No further FIRs can be filed against him regarding the incident.
✔ No arrest by Maharashtra or Assam police, provided he cooperates with the investigation.
✔ He can seek police protection in Maharashtra or Assam if he faces threats.
✔ He must surrender his passport in Thane, Maharashtra, and cannot leave the country without court permission.
SC Slams Allahbadia’s Remarks
While granting relief, the Supreme Court also expressed strong disapproval of his statements. The bench questioned his moral responsibility as a public figure and criticized the nature of his comments.
“What embarrassment has he caused to his parents? The words chosen are shameful for society,” Justice Kant remarked.
The court further rebuked him, stating,
“Just because someone thinks ‘I am popular, I can speak anything,’ doesn’t mean society will accept it. The entire society will feel ashamed by such perversion.”
The Legal Battle So Far
The controversy escalated when Guwahati Police attempted to question Allahbadia at his Mumbai residence last week. He then moved the Supreme Court to club multiple FIRs and seek anticipatory bail to prevent arrest.
A third complaint filed in Jaipur was also discussed during the hearing, with the court ruling that he cannot be arrested on its basis.
Death Threats and Security Measures
Allahbadia claimed he and his family had received death threats following the controversy. In response, the Supreme Court assured protection under the rule of law, stating,
“We are not supporting the threats. The State will provide necessary security if required.”
This ruling brings temporary relief to the influencer while reinforcing judicial scrutiny over his content. However, with his passport confiscated and police investigations ongoing, the legal battle is far from over. 🚨
