Hockey India Appoints Tim White as Head Coach of Junior Women’s Team

Australian coach tasked with developing next generation of Indian hockey talent

New Delhi, April 10: Hockey India on Friday appointed Australian coach Tim White as the head coach of the national junior women’s hockey team, entrusting him with the responsibility of grooming emerging players for the senior level.

White recently coached the Tamil Nadu Dragons in the Hero Hockey India League held in January 2026.

Experienced Coach with Global Track Record

Tim White brings extensive international experience, having worked with teams across Australia and Europe. He guided Belgium’s Under-21 women’s team to a bronze medal at the Junior World Cup in December 2025.

During his tenure with Belgium’s senior women’s team from 2021 to 2024, the side’s world ranking improved significantly, rising from 12th to 3rd. The team also reached the semifinals of the Paris Olympics 2024.

Earlier, White served as Australia’s junior national coach, where he also secured a Junior World Cup bronze.

Focus on Player Development

Speaking on his appointment, White expressed enthusiasm about working with Indian players, highlighting the country’s strong hockey culture and legacy.

He stated that his focus would be on developing technically sound players capable of transitioning to the senior team. His approach includes simplifying gameplay, strengthening both individual and team capabilities, and maintaining a balance between aggressive attacking play and disciplined defence.

White also emphasised the importance of fitness and the ability to perform under pressure in competitive environments.

Hockey India’s Vision

Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey welcomed the appointment, stating that White’s experience at the international level would be valuable for the development of young players in India.

General Secretary Bholanath Singh described the move as a significant step toward providing world-class training to junior players and strengthening the pathway to elite-level competition.
